Det sies at vi nordmenn blir født med ski på beina, og for mange er nok dette nærmest tilfelle. Vi elsker å ta oss en tur i skisporene, enten det er jul, påske eller langhelg. Noen av oss er også så heldige at vi kan stå på ski i nærområdet der vi bor. Men for å kunne nyte skituren til det fulle, er det helt alfa og omega å ha god glid. Det er her skismøring kommer inn i bildet. Med riktig klister under skiene vil du få bedre grep på snøen i motbakke, og samtidig optimal glid når du suser nedover en bratt bakke.

Grunnleggende om skismøring

Det er store forskjeller mellom god og dårlig skismøring. Har skien dårlig feste eller glid som ikke er optimal, vil du merke at skituren blir mye mer krevende, og du vil ikke få fullt utbytte av teknikken du har innarbeidet. Spesielt når det kommer til langrenn, er smøringen et sentralt fokusområde. Det legges ofte mye jobb ned i selve skismøringen, og du må ta hensyn til både temperatur og hva slags type snø det er ute. Det finnes derfor flere ulike former for skismøring, og det gjelder å lære seg hvilke som bør brukes til ulike formål. Vi skal se nærmere på ulike typer smøring straks.

Når du skal smøre skiene dine må du først og fremst finne det riktige spennet på skiene, samt lokalisere festesonen. Skienes spenn bør alltid være tilpasset din vekt og selvfølgelig ferdighetsnivået ditt. Festesonen på skiene dine finner du i det området hvor tørrvoksen (altså festesmøringen) skal påføres. Det er også viktig å rense skiene dine slik at du får fjernet gammelt klister og rester av tidligere smøring. Det finnes egne rensemidler for nettopp dette, og du finner det på de fleste sportsbutikker. Utstyr du trenger for å smøre skiene er blant annet kork, sandpapir, grunnvoks, festevoks, smørejern og fiberklut. Har du dette, er du klar for å smøre skiene!

Festevoks og glidevoks

Skiens festevoks er den smøringen som vil gi deg feste når du sparker ifra, for eksempel i motbakke. Denne voksen skal smøres inn i området under spennet på skiene, det vil si den seksjonen av skien som ikke er i kontakt med underlaget når du glir. Det finnes et omfattende utvalg av denne typen voks, og den finnes i form av både tape, spray, på boks og som klister. Det enkleste er nok å bruke tape, og dette er enkelt å påføre dersom du er nybegynner. Er du derimot dreven, vil du få et bedre resultat om du benytter et av de andre festeproduktene, som spray eller klister.

Den andre formen for smøring, glidevoks, benyttes – som navnet tilsier – for å gi deg bedre glid i bakkene. Denne type smøring er ofte avgjørende i store internasjonale konkurranser, og er viktig å gjøre riktig. Også innen glidevoks er utvalget omfattende, og det finnes varianter du påfører med både smørejern og våtservietter. Valg av smøreteknikk avhenger av type smøring du benytter, det vil si flourpulver, parafin, fluorkloss eller fluor på sprayboks (flytende fluor). For nybegynnere er våtservietter det enkleste å benytte, mens på toppnivå benyttes som regel smørejern. Prøv deg fram, og finn ut hva som er mest praktisk for nettopp deg, det viktigste er at du ikke glemmer å smøre skiene!

Skismøring har mye å si

Det norske landslaget på ski (både menn og kvinner) har egne smøreteam. Dette er folk som jobber dag og natt for å finne den beste smøringen til utøvernes ski. At det brukes så store ressurser på skismøring, sier litt om hvor avgjørende det er med god glid på skiene – spesielt i konkurranse-sammenheng. Vi husker vel alle smørekrisene som har vært i norsk langrennssport, noe som har fått mye oppmerksomhet i mediene de siste årene. God smøring kan høres ut som en bagatell, men det kan faktisk avgjøre om en utøver havner på pallen eller kommer sist inn i mål. Så neste gang du skal gå på ski – husk for all del smøringen!
